PROFILE

A highly experienced multi-lingual engineer with a background in Electrical/Mechanical research and design. A strong background in controlling complex mechanical systems and gathering data with computers. Specializing in the design and development of Windows based shop floor software to automate processes.

RESEARCH ASSOCIATE

University staff member at the Cameron Applied Research center assisting and leading a number of projects in the field on precision engineering and nanotechnology.

    1) Developed software in C to interface lock in amplifier with computer for automated testing. We fabricated the world's smallest harmonica measuring only 20 microns wide. The software was used to characterize the harmonicas "beams".

    2) Researched, designed and constructed a prototype Scanning Tunneling Microscope. Designed the electronic control system to actuate the tunneling tip to scan a diffraction grating. The microscope was fabricated for less then $1000 so it could be purchased by high schools to aid in teaching the field of nanotechnology.

    3) Researched, tested, and developed alternate designs of diode laser based interferometer systems. Graduate thesis focused on the stabilization of laser diodes using Peltier solid state cooling elements in order to use them for interferometric measurements of linear displacements.

SOFTWARE DESIGN ENGINEER

Co-developed software in C++ (OOP) to automate the process of calibrating coordinate measuring systems ( CMMs ). Interfacing was done to gather data from Laser Interferometer ( Renishaw and HP) via serial interfaces ( RS232 and GPIB ), CMM and weather stations to provide a calibration map for the machines. New process accounted for about a 60% reduction in time to calibrate machines. This system, VCP ( Volumetric Compensation Program ) is currently used worldwide by Brown and Sharpe to calibrate all their CMMs.

RESEARCH DESIGN ENGINEER

Co-developed a new method to calibrate CMMs using a mechanical fixture and high speed scanning algorithms. This method of calibration led to a patent being awarded for its design. The successful completion of this project allowed the company to reduce the time for this process from 12 hours to just over 1 hour.

PEOPLE SKILLS

Background in project management and technical team leader. Worked as a consultant to many organizations that provided a rich learning environment to learn how to interact with people successfully. Managed groups of people for short and long periods of time. Maintained and upbeat attitude in all engagements that quickly becomes contagious with whom ever I work with.
